Does anyone in the Warminster area remember the Conduit family from Codford? I used to work with two of them and wondered if they were still in the area?

Mari Booker (nee Jenkins)
I was born in Westbury an moved to Warminster when my dad, Ioan Jenkins became headteacher of The Minster School. One of my earliest memories is sitting on the front door step of Vicarage Cottage (where we lived) and watching for my dad walking up the road. This would have been about 10.30 am. I would call to mam (Bet Jenkins) to get the coffee ready. Dad was walking home to phone the dinner numbers through and call county hall. There was no phone at the school then. I then started in the nursery class when I was 3 in 1953. Lots more memories which I will post elsewhere on this site. Also very passionate about punctuation. I am carrying on my mother's work here. She would walk into shops and remind the shop keepers how to punctuate their signs.

I lived in Warminster in the early 70's. Moved away but still feels the place has a hold on me?? Visit regularly as I have friends still about. I was widowed earlier this year after 34 years, finding it hard, but have two great girls and lovely friends for support. Thinking of moving back but wondering if there is a relevant social scene for me and if so would love to know about it.

Hi, my name is Barbara I lived in Warminster in the early 70's and loved it. I worked for BarclaysBank in the market place and was transferred to London in 1976. Still visit on a regular basis as I have friends there still. Lived on the Army base for two years and then lived at Littlecourt in Silver St and then moved to Victoria Rd to rent a house with friends..........Had a hoot!! Warminster has changed quite a lot since those days. Wnet to the joint social club disco on Saturday nights. Doubt if that is still going? I live in Marlow now and would love to hear from anyone that might remember me.

Hello,
I lived in Warminster and surrounding area from 1948 until 1966. I would like to explore the history - local and personal, for this period. Familiar associations are Kingston Deverill, Hillside Children's Home, St. John's Primary School, St. George's Roman Catholic Church, Boreham Road, Bishopstow Mill, ??Salisbury Road, Kingdown Secondary Modern School, Woodcock Caravan Site, Woodcock Road, W. H. Smiths Newsagent Shop - opposite the Post Office, Warminster Town. The Railway Station close to/and The Avenue School, Station Road area, Heytesbury Village, Queensway Council Housing Estate, Hi-Fi Cafe - lower area of town, Norton Bavant Farm etc.
Any information of these/is period etc. would be appreciated.
Best wishes, hope to hear from you soon,
Albert.
Just thought I'd pop in and say Hello.
I've lived in and around Warminster on and off for almost 60 years so I think that makes me part of Warminsters history (Oh Dear!)
I knew Warminster when the Athenaeum was the Palace cinema and Regal Court was the Regal cinema.
When Lidles used to be the site of Warminster cattle market (my father sold pigs there)and Morrisons was the site of a big laundry.
I went to the Avenue School when Harold Dewey was headmaster and 'Baldy Brown' was sports master.
I can remember when the fair came to town it stretched all through the High Street from the Post Office to the Athenaeum where there was always a boxing booth in the road outside. The local lads and soldiers did their best to go three rounds with 'the fair fighters' with not a great deal of success!
Now recuperating from a stroke in Northern Ireland, I grew up in Warminster and attended St John's School and Kingdown.

I like to think of myself as a warminster boy, although born in Chippenham, grew up in care in hillside in Boreham Road , attended St Johns and Kingdown. left in seventy one, would love to see an old photo of hillside if anyone has one .
Probably about time I put something on here. Moved to Warminster about a year ago to be closer to family, and am still finding my feet.
Grew up in the area(ish) Shrewton, then Andover and went to school in Salisbury. University in Cambridge and then stayed up there until moving back here last year. Had to move from Cambridge as I am no longer able to work and couldn't afford to stay up there.
Am a chronic asthmatic but try not to let that define my life or stop me from doing the things I want to do. Just completed my Masters Degree in Victorian Studies, graduating in November and planning on doing some A Levels next year.
Love history, reading, cross stich, knitting, gardening, watching movies, doing crosswords, and playing the piano and cello.
I moved to Warmnister nearly five years ago. It was very clear that my husband-to-be, who has lived in Warminster since he was four, was not prepared to live elsewhere!
I was born in the midlands but my family is mainly Scottish. We returned to Scotland (Troon) in my youth. I attended Edinburgh and Durham universities and work as a secondary school teacher. I have one young son.
Ok time I put something on here.
Moved to Warminster in 1972 from Surrey. Went to New Close then Kingdown 1 year in 6th form needed more than 2 O-levels. Went to Chippenham College, then moved to London. I am Warminster born and bred. Apart from 8 years living in Peterborough. Moved back nearly 2 years ago. Married with 1 child of 14. Have not regretted moving back. It is funny that the debate about Warminster town centre was still raging on. Bet it will be on agenda again in a few years time!
Moved from Salisbury over 20 years ago. Have 3 grown up children all living with-in 10 miles. Work for the origonal American photocopier company.
Interested in computers and the effect they have on people by making their hair go grey !
Help out with Table Tennis clubs around wiltshire, run the Warminster Freecycle group and help with a church charity group raising funds to keep the roof on.
Warminster is such a friendly place I would hate to move away.
And soon we will be able to wander around the town centre in a pedestrian friendly manner, if we can wait till next year.
Hi All - I'm not really too certain where this post should go but I don't suppose it matters too much - it's really just a big thank you to all Forum members (and especially Keith of course) for tipping the scales of our destiny....
Faced with a move to the Salisbury Plain Area last year (the brief was to be within a one hour drive from Tidworth) my partner John and I found ourselves with a bewildering choice of locations spanning the full 360 degrees around Tidworth!
Criteria for the house purchase were easy (somewhere where cats aren't too likely to get squashed (sorry guys it's another cat lover...), somewhere close to accessible countryside and somewhere with a functioning community) but deciding WHERE that house should be was much much harder. Snapshotting towns like Devizes and Marlborough didn't help nor did it help visting villages for a quick nose and a pint. However your Forum here in Warminster DID help.
Appetites for Warminster were stimulated by your chat (and especially the standards of punctuation and use of apostrophes..), the photos, the history and so on, so much so that we have bought a smashing little house in Warminster and have now moved in.
Ex Guardsman partner loves the military history of the town, we both love the walks and the countryside, we're amazed by the free parking and the wide streets, we're jolly impessed by The Organ and the beers therein and are really looking forward to getting out and about a whole lot more this summer.
If anyone is still reading this .
Thank you all!

I moved to Warminster with my family when I bought a house on the South side of town in 1998, whilst I was still in the Army. Left the Army around the end of 2001 after 20 years - most of which were very enjoyable.
In 2003, with a bit more time on my hands I volunteered to join the Athenaeum Trust as Treasurer - am now a Trustee as well.
Recently I was "persuaded" to offer my services as a prospective Town Councillor - and was elected on May 3rd. Not knowing much about the job I have promised only to do my best. Time will tell if I can make a difference - or whether the cogs of local administration carry too much momentum for that!

Barbara (PIDGASsing)
I thought it was about time I added myself!
I'm originally from Northern Ireland but since the age of 15 have lived in many places in the South of England arriving in Warminster in 1993.
Last summer I married John (who's from Bristol) and we moved down by the Obelisk. Two of my three sons live with us. They are far too old to be at home but I can't get rid of them.
John also inherited two Maine Coon cats when he married me.
I think that's it. Oh, one more thing - PIDGAS (pronounced PID GAS) is actually an acronym...

Ali P ( MiniMooster )
Hiya - I was born here, went to Minster School, then on to Kingdown before completing 1 year of the 6th form and leaving to get a job instead. Went to Trowbridge College (after realising that maybe I didn't want to be a secretary after all), did a computing degree down in Plymouth and then moved away for about 10 years as all the IT jobs were in the Berkshire area at the time.
Did the usual - worked, got married, had a baby, and then found out the prices of houses in Berkshire were astronomical so here I am back again!
We've been back just over 4 years now and have since added to the brood with twins!
Working as the book keeper for our business and currently completely obsessed with the restoration of Emms, my Mini - hee hee!
I was born in Trowbridge and lived in Warminster up until the age of 11 when i moved elsewhere (in hindsight; bad idea). Nothing could keep me from returning however and i finally came back to my roots in 2005. My main interests now are travelling, photography, writing, films, video games, music and loads of other stuff.
Descended from local family, related to god-knows how many people living in this town, have lived in a complete circle around the villages and in Warminster itself (apart from 4 days in Yate - long story). Divorced, no kids, currently share life with 2 cats, a motorbike, several hundred books and a PC Geek (not in order of importance). Am now an alternative therapist, but have had many interesting jobs over past 22 years.
Hi. I'm a single American mother of 5. I moved to Warminster just over a year ago. Some of my ancestors lived in Westbury 350 years ago! I would love to meet other people, especially if you are a good-looking single man! (with or without children.) I also would like to meet people who have alternative beliefs.
