The lovely Chapel of St Lawrence now has a website full of information about this gem set in our town centre , one of the last surviving early 13th century buildings ( namely the bell tower ) in our town it is also something of a focal point from afar when you see the flag & spire peeping over the tree tops . There is an Online Guest Book within the website and it would be great if we could get as many people as possible to leave a message and help raise the Chapel profile , not just a chapel but a unique historic building in the townspeoples ownership . The Chapel Tower is is need of serious repair and funds have to be raised by donations , however much anyone gives would be a great help to the Feoffees and FOCSL . FOCSL " The Friends of the Chapel of St Lawrence " was set up to support the work of the Feoffees , if you wish to join or donate please visit the links . | QUOTE | | The chapel is a 'peculiar'; existing outside the control of the Church of England. It was traditionally endowed by two maiden sisters named Hewett in the early 13th century. It is now an independent foundation, held in trust since 1575 by twelve feoffees who are responsible for the preservation and upkeep of the chapel on behalf of the townspeople of Warminster who actually 'own 'it. |
