Does anyone remember F&G Sykes coming to town, probably in the late 50s. This was not only a new industry (chicken breeding) but provided significant employment opportunities (possibly up to 200 people). They built a site in Bath Road. I think some of the long low buildings (hatcheries) are still there between Furneaux Lane and Sydenhams, and also in Sutton Veny. Their HQ was in Manor House. They were leaders in breeding chickens specifically for 'industrial' use (read battery hens) and could specify them in terms of food input v eggs output plus weight at end. That was very different from the previous approach of Rhode Island Reds and White Sussex that my Dad kept. I think they were bought out by Ross Foods and are no more. I would be grateful for any information. Not only have they disappeared from Warminster but seem to have disappeared from Google as well. Any memories gratefully received
